Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the city not doing a levy or bond for this?
The City of Walla Walla is committed to supporting the library but has opted not to pursue a levy or bond for this project. Instead, the city is working in partnership with private donors, grants, and philanthropic contributions to fund the renovation. This approach allows the project to move forward without increasing taxes while still meeting the community’s need for an updated and modernized library.
How much has the city contributed to this project?
The City of Walla Walla has invested in the planning and design phase of the renovation and continues to provide operational support for the library. They have contributed $3M to date in addition to staff time and resources. However, the majority of the funding for the renovation will come from private donations and grants to ensure the project’s success without placing additional financial burden on taxpayers.
How are the Friends of the Library involved?
The Friends of the Walla Walla Public Library are strong advocates and supporters of this project. They are actively involved in fundraising efforts, community engagement, and spreading awareness about the importance of this renovation. Their dedication helps ensure that the library remains a vital resource for the community. They will continue to support and fundraise for specific library projects.
How long will the renovation take?
The renovation timeline will depend on final funding and construction schedules, but the project is expected to take approximately 12 months once construction begins (targeted for March / April 2026). Updates will be provided to keep the community informed on progress and any potential adjustments to the timeline.
Will the library be relocated?
During the renovation, efforts will be made to minimize disruption to library services. The library will be temporarily relocating to 115 W. Main St, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
